So, a financial advisor I know has been strongly recommending getting disability insurance. Though I suspect that I already get some state (California) disability insurance through my employer, I have looked into getting some additional disability coverage for myself. However, disability insurance seems to be relatively rare, with many of the carriers I know only offering disability insurance through some other obscure insurance company. Or if an established carrier does offer disability insurance, they don't seem to offer any sort of discount on the disability insurance even if you want to add it to a home and auto insurance package. Have others had this same experience?
Rather than supplemental disability insurance, would it be a reasonable idea to obtain a home equity line of credit just to have some emergency funds available in case of sudden unemployment or the like?
